In the Russian backcountry in the middle of nowhere, the macho world dominated by toxic masculinity is still in order. Until Zhanna, who has just returned from Moscow, has to pick up her three girlfriends at the police station. The three prostitutes long for a halfway normal life. But that hardly seems possible in the midst of a male-dominated trucker and farmer community. Until Zhanna comes up with a promising business idea... 

Such honest self-reflection is rare in Russia. "Chicks" ventures deep into the hinterland, forgotten by many and steeped in religion, and lets its protagonists rebel against outdated patriarchal structures. Quirky characters, bizarre situations as well as a rousing soundtrack and photography that literally sweats out the Russian heat have already thrilled an audience of millions in Russia. It's quite possible that the combination of gender clash and self-actualization comedy will also find an open-minded audience internationally.
