As European public broadcasters join forces to create ambitious premium drama on an big scale, New8 has quickly emerged as one of the industry’s most closely watched co-production initiatives. In this session, YLE and DR present exclusive first looks at two upcoming New8 productions — THE CRASHING and HØST — offering insight into the creative ambition, editorial processes and collaborative structures behind the alliance.

How are projects developed creatively across eight broadcasters with different audiences, priorities and commissioning cultures? What makes a “New8 story” — and are there certain themes, scales or storytelling approaches that naturally lend themselves to this model? At the same time, does building a series within a multinational co-production framework create greater creative freedom through shared risk, or does it inevitably add new layers of editorial complexity?
