Nicolas Steil began his career in the 1980s as a journalist; most notably covering the Lebanon War when his reports prompted television coverage of this brutal conflict. In 1983, he joined RTL TV as a reporter and subsequently as a news presenter, he proceeded to direct and produce numerous documentaries for the network.
In 1986, he founded his own production company – Iris Productions – through which he first produced and directed documentaries, television reports and commercials.
Iris, which he co-owns with Katarzyna Ozga, has since produced and co-produced some 60 international films and/or series and these have won over 30 awards and participated in more than 150 international festivals.
Nicolas Steil has also directed five stage plays and his first feature - “Réfractaire”- has so far been invited to participate in over 30 international film festivals and won 6 awards. His second feature film, “The Way to Happiness” was also a success, selected in 50 festivals and awarded 8 times.
Recently he wrote a new theater play ‘Love Thieves’ which successfully opened at the National Theatre of Luxembourg and he’s currently showrunner on the series Droneland which he co-wrote.
