A Space Oddity revisited: "Star Trek" mastermind Alex Kurtzman remakes the David Bowie film classic and lets Chiwetel Ejiofor as the titular alien discover his humanity.
David Bowie seemed to have the role of the androgynous alien written all over him when he fell from the sky in Nicholas Roeg's film version of the science fiction classic. As Ziggy Stardust, he had already experienced many a musical "Space Oddity," and Roeg's film seemed like an extension of his alter ego. For the creative team around Jenny Lumet and Alex Kurtzman ("Star Trek"), Chiwetel Ejiofor now slips into the extraterrestrial astral body that lands on Earth to save its species from extinction. To do so, he must track down the brilliant scientist Justin Falls, who has long since given up her hope in humanity. Unlike the alien, who is eager to be rescued, he must first learn what it means to be human and, along the way, perhaps make our world a better place.
