That Iranian filmmakers regularly return home with the main prizes of the major European film festivals is no secret. With "The Actor" by creator and director Nima Javidi, this has now been achieved for the first time in a series. In the spring, this incredibly gripping and smart suspense and thriller won the top prize at the Seriesmania Festival in Lille. And rightly so, because "The Actor" sets new standards in terms of both camera and actors (Navid Mohammadzadeh won the Actor Award at the Venice Film Festival 2017).The plot is as unusual as it is captivating: Ali and his friend Morteza are real-life actors in Iran. Their stage is receptions, engagements and parties, their roles whatever their clients want. Because they are good at what they do, they attract the attention of a mysterious organization that sends our two into situations where the stakes are even much higher.
