In “Buried,” an Australian single mom causes the death of a stranger on her way to school and from that moment on finds herself trying to somehow fit her ever-growing to-do list—and the disposal of the body—into her daily routine. Which goes wildly off the rails and is billed by its creators as a “mum noir comedy thriller.”
In the Austrian-German co-production “Sheep,” which caused a sensation at the Canneseries Festival, real people (including Birgit Minichmayer, Roland Düringer, and Jella Haase) voice real sheep, whose mouth movements were animated in post-production. The sheep mistakenly believe they have domesticated humans. A misconception that could lead the sheep to certain death if the cynical sheep Oliver fails to convince his fellow sheep otherwise: Sure, it’s about meat consumption and vegetarianism, but anyone familiar with the conspiracy theory of the “sheeple” is also sure to be thoroughly entertained.
