A man like an NRA and MAGA advertorial: As "Suicide Squad's" Peacemaker, wrestling star John Cena lets weapons do the talking. And thus gives DC its first really convincing series hit.

Already in the remake of "Suicide Squad" by "Guardians of the Galaxy" creator James Gunn, he was the secret star: Christopher Smith alias the Peacemaker. An ultra-reactionary and gun-toting "peacemaker" embodied by ex-wrestler John Cena with so much fractured verve that Gunn wrote his own series around him. It made a splash in the U.S. on HBO Max earlier this year, giving us the lowdown on why the apple didn't fall far from the tree in the form of Smith's racist father "White Dragon" (Robert Patrick). It's fortunate that he's joined by the contrary Leota for the covert operation "Project Butterfly." The daughter of Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) is a kind of corrective for the brutal vigilante. Which doesn't have to mean much amidst the group of sociopaths who come together for the secret government project here, though. Except for one thing: A lot of anarchic and humorous superhero ruckus, which a second season and further spin-offs are now already certain.
