Adult decadence instead of homely Sissi romance: Emilia Schüle follows in the rococo footsteps of Kirsten Dunst and upsets the French people as "Marie Antoinette."
What the Germans and Austrians have with their Sissi, the French people have with Marie Antoinette. At least almost. The last queen before the outbreak of the French Revolution was not exactly known as the "Queen of Hearts". A fact that Sofia Coppola and Kirsten Dunst also put into snappy French pop and elaborate costumes a little more than 15 years ago. For Canal+, the French are now doing it themselves again. At least almost. The all-female writing team is led by Deborah Davis, who has already been nominated for an Oscar for the royal farce "The Favourite. And the queen herself is also embodied - quel affront - by a German. Emilia Schüle plays the title role in the prestige production, which aims to paint a modern and feminist portrait of the former Austrian archduchess. A later crossover with "Sisi" is unfortunately not possible for reasons of contemporary history. But how about a visit to Elle Fanning's "The Great"?
