Times may change (and so may we), but universal themes and their impact on audiences remain the same. A little over ten years ago, the adaptation of Albert Espinosa’s autobiographical work moved millions of viewers to tears and earned its creators a veritable shower of awards (including an International Emmy, the Bavarian and German Television Awards, and the Grimme Prize). Now it’s time for a new era, a new club: The team led by directors Felix Binder and Aki Wegner relies not only on the fresh screenwriting expertise of head writer Adrian Spring (“Superior”) and Kristen Loose (“Habibi Baba Boom,” “Souls”), but also on up-and-coming actors in the cast and issues adapted to today’s zeitgeist. What remains the same is the “Club of the Red Ribbons,” founded by five teenagers with varying degrees of serious illness to support one another in the hospital wing: Nora (Mariama Jobe), Charlie (Greta Krämer), Yannik (Yoran Leicher), Elias (Voicu Dumitras), and Philip (Jona Levin Nicolai). A new generation to inspire and comfort a new generation. And for a new “Never give up!”
