Ex-teen stars are a dime a dozen. And if they don’t make a comeback through singing, then it’s dancing or some other kind of reality show. Flo is one of those former “stars” whose biggest successes with the boy band Rise date back some twenty years. So for him, too, it’s a matter of putting on a brave face in the cutthroat world of reality TV—or giving it one more shot with the band. After all, it worked out for Take That and the Backstreet Boys.
So Flo rounds up his old bandmates Kim, Fares & Sam (Daniel Sträßer, Eidin Jalali & Tristan Seith)—all of whom have long since gone from boys to men—in order to turn the band’s name into a self-fulfilling program through Rise’s spectacular comeback. But with age, the problems haven’t gotten any smaller—quite the opposite. Which is why, caught between past scandals, former manager Romy (Nadeshda Brennicke), new manager Nina (Linda Schablowski), and a transformed entertainment landscape, the band becomes the cliff that Flo and his boys must overcome if they truly want to make it back to the top…
