Showrunning in Europe: Spotlight on Miikko Oikkonen ("Estonia", "Bordertown")
European Showrunner Think Tank – in cooperation with ifs Internationale Filmschule Köln
The international co-production "Estonia" is Finland's biggest drama project to date. Showrunner MIIKKO OIKKONEN ("Bordertown", "Helsinki Syndrome") uses this ambitious project to illustrate his approach to showrunning in Europe. A special focus will be on the relationship between showrunner and lead director as well as strategies for ensuring the success of a series that is co-produced with partners from seven (!) European countries.
As part of the Creative Europe Media funded European Showrunner Programme at ifs Internationale Filmschule Köln, the European Showrunner Think Tank invites all professionals involved in series production to discuss and define the showrunner model from the European perspective. In industry panels and "spotlight" interviews, this event series aims to shed light on European versions of this hereabouts still comparatively new form of series producing, providing a platform for exchange on issues that need to be tackled in order to establish a sustainable, truly European approach to showrunning.
The session will be moderated by Italian writer and showrunner BARBARA PETRONIO ("Suburra - Blood on Rome", "Uonderbois/Wonderboys").
