Oliver Hirschbiegel, born on 27 December 1957 in Hamburg, switched to film after studying art at the Hamburg University of Fine Arts. After a series of television films, he made his cinema debut in 2001 with the psychological thriller THE EXPERIMENT, for which he received several awards, including the German Film Award. He celebrated further successes with the Oscar-nominated drama DOWNFALL (2004), the Irish feature film FIVE MINUTES OF HEAVEN (2009), for which he was awarded the directing prize at the Sundance Film Festival, the British production DIANA and at the Berlinale with ELSER – HE WOULD HAVE CHANGED THE WORLD. He made his series debut in 2011 with the first season of BORGIA. Hirschbiegel directed the first three episodes of the second season of the critically acclaimed series 4 BLOCKS. His episode THE DIVER of the series anthology STRAFE - NACH FERDINAND VON SCHIRACH was shown at the Cannes Festival. Most recently, he directed the international series UNWANTED for Sky and CONSTELLATION for Apple TV+. NACH FERDINAND VON SCHIRACH lief auf dem Canneseries Festival.
