Born and raised in Bavaria, Alexander Bickel discovered his passion for fiction storytelling while studying in Cologne, working as a freelance editor for WDR. Since the late 1990s, he has worked at ZDF in various editorial and leadership roles, commissioning numerous fiction productions, including "Unsere Mütter, unsere Väter", "Ijon Tichy: Raumpilot", and "Honigfrauen".
After returning to Cologne in 2019, he took over as head of the Fiction Department at WDR. Among the series he and his team have produced for ARD are the German-French political comedy "Parlament", the German adaptation of the internationally successful comedy series "Ghosts", and the high-end drama series "Hundertdreizehn", which will open Seriencamp 2025.
