Judith Weiler (*1986) is a Cologne-based writer, producer, and founder of Butterfilm. She began her writing career at a small-town newspaper in rural southern Germany before taking a detour to study literature and communication in Erfurt. She then worked as an assistant director and producer on various film and TV productions, while training as an international producer at the Internationale Filmschule Köln. In 2015, she founded Butterfilm, a boutique film production and VFX studio, which she runs with VFX artist Til Strobl.
During the pandemic, she honed her screenwriting skills through numerous workshops, and sold her comedy show Violetta — about a personified period — first to ZDF and later to WDR. Under the Butterfilm umbrella — and sometimes beyond — Judith develops TV projects in various shades of (dark) comedy, preferably in collaboration with like-minded creatives from around the world. Since 2019, she has also served as a volunteer lay judge (“Schöffin”).
